Meet Gabby

Every community has individuals whose presence lights up a room and whose actions leave an indelible impact. Gabrielle (“Gabby”) is one of those people. A self-advocate and dedicated volunteer, Gabby exemplifies that true value lies not in labels or limitations but in kindness, effort, and the willingness to make a difference.

A Journey of Service

Gabby’s journey as a volunteer began in middle school when she became the water girl for the boys’ varsity lacrosse team at her local high school. What started as a way to get involved outside of school quickly became a source of pride for both Gabby and the team. The players noticed her absence at away games and expressed to their coach how much they wanted her there—a testament to the impact she made on their team dynamic.

Since then, Gabby has grown into a vital member of her community, dedicating her time and energy to various organizations, including The Nest at Owings Mills High School, Meals on Wheels, and Pearlstone Farm. Whether she’s packing groceries for families in need, sorting donations, or delivering meals, Gabby approaches every task with determination, joy, and an eagerness to help. Her positive attitude uplifts those around her, making the work lighter and more meaningful.

”I look forward to seeing Gabby when I volunteer and I am disappointed on days when she is not. I have seen Gabby help out in all kinds of weather conditions. She is very reliable and always seems like she wants to help in any way she can. She really is impressive.”

Inspiring Through Action

What makes Gabby truly remarkable is not just her dedication but her ability to inspire those around her. Her reliability and cheerful demeanor remind everyone of the importance of perseverance and kindness. Over the years, Gabby’s confidence has blossomed. Where she once stayed close to her mom at events, she now takes on tasks independently, connecting effortlessly with her teammates and leading by example.

Included and Capable

Gabby easily integrates into every team she joins. In photos of her volunteer work, she’s simply part of the group—not singled out, not treated differently, but fully included. Gabby’s Down syndrome doesn’t define her, and that’s exactly the point.
